The Season of Thanksgiving

Harvester families have much to be thankful for! Thanksgiving is a special time at Harvester as students look forward to their Thanksgiving service projects and classroom parties. Classroom assignments are centered around being thankful for all of the many things we have and people in our lives. Younger children do arts and crafts and listen to stories of the first Thanksgiving and its meaning to our country's history. By the time Thanksgiving day has arrived, students are well prepared to give thanks with their families. Service projects around the community remind students that they are to share with others. Mrs. Gable's kindergarten class dropped food donations off to a local food pantry to provide much needed staples to needy families in the community.

Third Annual Grandparent's Day

On October 30, 2009 Harvester hosted its 3rd Annual Grandparent's Day. Over 250 grandparents visited the school and were treated to lunch and time to visit their grandchildren's classes and tour the school. Grandparents traveled near and far to join their grandchildren for this special day. Harvester students proudly displayed artwork and showed grandparents some of what they are learning each day. Harvester strives to honor this special generation and their impact in our lives. Below are photos of grandparents and grandchildren enjoying their time together:

The Flood of 2009

During the night on September 20, 2009 Douglas, Paulding, and Carroll counties experienced an extreme period of heavy rain that caused major flash flooding throughout many areas. Tragically, lives were lost in this flooding. Homes were damaged, roads washed away, and thousands were without power and water.

Douglas county schools were closed for one week, and upon returning to school many families were forced to take alternate routes. Teachers arrived earlier than usual to be with students whose parents had to drop them off early to allow for extra time to commute to work.

Harvester's gym was also flooded. Harvester families arrived as soon as possible to begin emptying the standing water out of the building. Unfortunately the floor was ruined, but new construction has begun.

Many Harvester students volunteered at emergency relief sites handing out water and basic toiletries. Others assisted families that had water damage to their home by repainting, ripping out carpet, and restoring damaged areas.

Hospital Day

The kindergarten class hosted a Hospital Day and welcomed a doctor as their special guest. They learned about health issues, the importance of doctors and hospitals, and received goody bags.

Pep Rallies and Football

Harvester not only challenges its students academically, but also physically. HCA's athletic program has a well established reputation throughout West Georgia. Our teams have had multiple award winning seasons and state championships.

Students get out of the classroom for an hour of school spirit with the cheerleaders and football team to get pumped up for the upcoming football game.

On a typical Friday night the stands are packed with students, parents, and friends cheering on the Hawk team to victory.

First Day of the 2009-2010 School Year

Clothes are ironed, pencils are sharpened, backpacks are packed...it can only mean one thing: the first day of school!

Harvester Christian Academy opened its doors to over 400 students on August 19, 2009. From the K4 students who are excitedly experiencing their first day of many years of schooling, to the 12th grade seniors who are ready to take on the world, Harvester students were eager to begin a new school year.
